S’up internet?!
Can you believe we’re at the end of May already?!
Time really does fly when you’re having fun I guess.
And this month has been pretty hectic, for sure.

Through Birthdays, bridesmaids obligations, setting up new tech and working two jobs, I’ve had the smallest amount of reading time this month.
I did, however – thankfully – manage to get through four books this month, two of which were biggies so I’m pretty happy with that.
All in all I’ve had a pretty great reading month.
I loved most of what I’ve read, and liked the other so, no real complaints here.

Mildly spoilerific May in review

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

I had a somewhat love/hate relationship with Hush, Hush, and Becca Fitzpatrick style in general. I liked the premise of the book; fallen angels, high school angst, forbidden love.
What I had a problem with was the execution.
Nora Grey has to be thee second worst female protagonist ever –  the first will always, and forever belong to Anna Steel! (Was that even her name? I don’t much care.)
I can’t even pinpoint what annoyed me so much about Nora, I think, maybe because she was bland and stereotypical; maybe because she was extremely flippant.
“I think this boys trying to kill me! He’s such an arrogant ass! Oh but, he’s kind of cute… I hate him! But I’ll spend all my time with him anyway.”
I just… I can’t put up with this nonsense, I’m in my twenties! Have mercy.
On the other hand, I sort of loved the character Patch. He was cocky and brazen and absolutely the type of character I love reading about. What can I say, I love a bad boy.
The story itself was filled with ridiculous plot holes and horribly unrealistic characters, I mean I know this is a story about fallen angels and all, but your human characters still have to react like a human being, not a robot. Nora’s best ‘friend’ was a raging biatch, who was not only shallow and somewhat self centred, but never had her friends back ethier; sisters before misters Vee, come on. And don’t even get me started on the police!
I know I’m ragging on this a lot, but in the end, I actually quite liked this book. The story was at least mildly entertaining and I loved Patch enough to want to read the next one.
I rated this one 2.5 stars. Not the worst thing I’ve read, but I’m sure glad I loaned this out from the Library instead of buying.

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

Now this is how you write a story about Angles.
Laini Taylor has to have thee most beautiful and haunting writing style I’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring.
I won’t say too much as this is the second in the trilogy, and a prime example of how a series doesn’t have to suffer from second book slump syndrome.
Alluringly macabre, this story had me hooked from beginning to end, I loved, I laughed, I cried, I gasped, I broke my heart.
The characters were fantastic and I found myself even loving moments with characters I hated, because the villains were so well put together. And the world building; even better!
Badass warrior angels; loving and compassionate beast like Chimera; girls with naturally blue hair; a tortured romance like no other… I gave this a solid 4.5 stars. I seriously loved this book, the only downfall for me was a few angst moments with Karou, but under the circumstances, I’m sure she can be forgiven.

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas

This series!
I can’t get over how far this series has come since Throne of Glass.
The story progression was incredible in this one and I loved every moment of it. The characters were incredible and I couldn’t get enough reading more about the newer characters that were introduced in Heir of Fire.
I loved the interactions with Aelin and her cousin Aedion, I loved Manon’s development with the thirteen, I loved the inclusion of Arobynn, I loved Lysandra and I love love loved Rowan’s parts in this!
I know a lot of people who don’t agree with the whole Rowan situation, but I can honestly say this is the first time I haven’t been pissed off with a romantic subplot in this series.
All aboard Team Rowan, I’m captaining this ship.
5 stars, September can’t come quick enough for me, I didn’t have a bad thing to say about this one.

A Court of Mist and Fury

Why do you do this to me Sarah?
I have fallen into the biggest book hangover after finishing this on Friday.
Carry On was my favourite read so far this year, and this has just surpassed it, by a long shot.
For me, this series is Tolkien on crack. The perfect blend of high fantasy, action/suspense and romance. It’s like Maas peered into my soul and gave me the perfect book.
In fact, this story was so good, I handed it over to a friend earlier to read a passage, a friend who does NOT read, and she wouldn’t put it down.
The world is perfect, every character was incredible – and I can assure you, it’s not very often I speak so highly about a female character – the action was awesome, the romance was steamy as frick, and the character development was just, so beautiful.
I’m currently in a toss up deciding between Rhys and Rowan from ToG to be my book boyfriend. Apparently I have a type; cocky, badass fae warriors of noble birth!
The Night Court may have become my new favourite fictional place, and the characters within were so fun to read about.
I was heartbroken by the time I finished this, because I know I won’t last a year for more.
Send help.

I’ve actually done a bad thing. I started listening to the Audiobook earlier today.
I have so many books and I can’t get this one out of my system.
It’s like ACOMAF is a drug and I’m totally and completely addicted.
A perfect 10 out of 5 stars!
Please Sarah, have pity and stop running my life with your perfect books.
I have adulty responsibilities, my house won’t clean itself!
